the laptop broke but still under warranty, it was replaced, but of course windows 7(64bit) was out and had no choice due to laptops all being bloody pre installed with OS. I was originally using the onboard (aspeed) graphics, but they caused massive latency, so I switched to a cheap nvidia silent card (8600GT), still had some latency issues until I read Echo Audiofire 8 connects and the DtoA side works fine, but the record side (A-D) is full of dropouts. There must be something with how the OS is trying to index the contents of the drive that were causing the system to hang when working with files on it.
